The first presentation of the collection outside Italy

19 NOVEMBER 2021 – 27 MARCH 2022

To mark the seventieth anniversary of the establishment of the Giorgio Cini Foundation, the Hôtel de Caumont Art Centre in Aix-en-Provence is taking visitors on a ‘trip’ to Venice to view the masterpieces held in the Cini Collection, presented for the first time outside Italy; it is one of the most significant collections of ancient Italian art.

The ninety paintings, sculptures, drawings, and precious objects presented at the Hôtel de Caumont in the autumn of 2021 are part of one of the most prestigious collections of Italian art, from the fourteenth to eighteenth century, assembled by the businessman and philanthropist Vittorio Cini (Ferrara 18851977, Venice). His insatiable curiosity and expert advice from prestigious art historians enabled him, over a period of around fifty years, to assemble an exceptional collection, both in terms of its quality and the diversity of the techniques and object typologies. The collection comprises sculptures, engravings, drawings, furniture objects, and paintings on wood, as well as Venetian porcelains and French ivories, miniatures, and finely ornamented volumes.
