Vaison-la-Romaine Sites antiques

Welcome to France’s largest archaeological site.

At the foot of Mont Ventoux, on an area of over 8 hectares, two preserved quarters of the ancient Vasio Vocontiorum reveal the remains of wealthy residences, commercial quarters, public baths and the theater. In the Archaeological Museum, imperial marble statues, mosaics and numerous everyday objects bear witness to the splendor of the ancient city. And let’s not forget the animated film on a wealthy Vasio residence – the Maison au Dauphin – recreated in computer-generated images; visit the rooms and discover the daily life of the owners, as if you were there!

Activities for children (free admission up to age 9): workshops (Roman architecture with Lego, frieze making, ancient games…) booklet-games… ; multilingual audio guides; guided tours; seasonal events (escape games, theatrical tours, etc.), etc.

2024, the centenary year:

The ancient capital of the Voconces was given the name Vaison-la-Romaine in 1924. Numerous events are planned throughout the year: À la Rencontre de l’Empire romain (Encounter with the Roman Empire) on May 11 and 12, an exhibition of Jean-Claude Golvin’s drawings in the autumn, a symposium on domus (rich urban dwellings) on October 4 and 5, and more.
