Abbaye troglodytique de St-Roman

Located in Beaucaire, City of Art and History, the Abbey of Saint-Roman houses the remains of a monastery dug into a hill from the 10th century.

From the guarded car park, a path takes you through the scrubland to the top of the limestone hill. You will discover chapel and rock cells, large rooms or even cisterns and silos, vestiges of troglodyte monastic life.

A veritable necropolis hosting hundreds of tombs dug into the rock and the remains of the medieval fortification remain on the upper terrace.

From there, a magnificent panorama is offered to you on the Rhône facing the Alpilles, with a unique view of Provence.
