Designed for families, this guided tour of the Palais des Papes in Avignon uses anecdotes to bring everyday life in the papal era back to life inside a grand castle that is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Castle, palace or fortress: a monument that intrigues young and old

The Palais des Papes captivates visitors of every age. Adults tend to be struck by its grandeur, while children are curious about the secrets hidden inside this huge building. Is it a castle, a palace or a fortress? The question comes up right from the start.

An interactive tour with a quiz, all the way to the papal gardens

Along the route, participants take a short quiz, and its outcome holds a surprise. Anecdotes about everyday life in the time of the popes punctuate the tour, which also takes in the papal gardens.

Meeting at the foot of the wooden staircase for a 1h45 tour in a group of 25

The tour starts at the bottom of the wooden staircase, on the right-hand side of the palace’s main entrance. Please arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled time. The tour lasts 1h45, and groups are capped at 25 people.

Until 31 July, tickets cost €11.50 to €16.50, and children under 8 go free. From 1 August onwards, prices range from €15 to €20, and the tour is free for children under 10.

Because of the many steps, the Palais des Papes is not accessible to visitors with reduced mobility.
