At a Provençal mas in Bellegarde, the guided tour of the craft distillery run by Un Mas en Provence takes you from organically grown aromatic plants all the way to the distilling of essential oil.

A mas from the former Duchy of Uzès, from organic crops to certified organic perfume

The estate is an authentic Provençal mas that once belonged to the Duchy of Uzès. Perfume plants, including lavender and immortelle, are grown here organically. The tour follows their transformation into essential oil and ends with the making of a certified organic perfume.

Gaël grows and distils aromatic plants, and he welcomes visitors onto his land for a sensory tour that appeals to every sense, “a unique and genuine experience”. He explains what essential oils of lavender, immortelle, lemon balm and verbena, among others, are used for and what benefits they offer.

Organic fields, a steam still and an introduction to identifying oils by scent

The visit unfolds in three stages:

  • a walk through the fields of lavender, immortelle and many other plants;
  • a look around the distillery and its steam still, where the secrets of extracting organic essential oils are revealed;
  • an introduction to identifying essential oils by scent, so that you can recognise them and use them in daily life.

An audio guide is available in English, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.

Sessions in French and English, with separate times in July and August

Every session is bilingual, in French and English, throughout the year. In July and August, the sessions are split by language: French-language tours run at 10:00 am, 11:00 am and 4:30 pm, and English-language tours at 10:30 am and 3:30 pm.
