At the Parc des Ateliers in Arles, LUMA Arles presents In The Veins, a new film by Camille Henrot co-produced by LUMA, as a European premiere.

An immersive film about the unseen currents of human experience

Designed as an immersive work in moving images, the film explores what moves unseen yet shapes our lives: emotions, beliefs, desires and stories handed down across generations, all tying each person to wider systems of meaning. Henrot treats these forces as at once intimate and systemic, showing that the inner life cannot be detached from the symbolic, social and cultural structures around it.

Tenderness and care, from children to the animal world

With In The Veins, Camille Henrot examines tenderness and care, basic conditions that are becoming ever more fragile, especially in the way we relate to children and animals. Animals loom large in the imagination of childhood, yet they gradually fade out of adult life, a sign of a wider drift away from nature and of a deep cultural dissonance.

Against the backdrop of the climate crisis, the work sets the emotional complexity of bringing up children beside an era defined by uncertainty, pain and anticipation.

Anthropology, psychology, ecology: care and nature as cycles

Building on anthropology, psychology and ecology, Henrot sees care and nature as cyclical processes rather than linear ones, and questions the prevailing stories of progress and control. The film takes the form of a sensory, reflective space in which vulnerability and interdependence prove to be essential conditions of life.

LUMA Arles, a place for experimentation and production

The film marks an important step in Camille Henrot’s career. It also reflects what LUMA Arles stands for: a place where artists can experiment and produce, backed in creating works that help us regain our bearings and imagine a common future anew.
