Contact and information
At Fort Saint-André in Villeneuve-lez-Avignon, the exhibition Marc Bloch : vie, combats, héritages follows the path of a historian and Resistance fighter who entered the Panthéon this year.
The Centre des monuments nationaux pays tribute to the man it regards as the founder of contemporary history. The exhibition was designed together with the Association des Professeurs d’Histoire et de Géographie. A French historian and a leading figure of the twentieth century, Marc Bloch (1886-1944) profoundly changed the way historians go about their work today. He demonstrated that history is written in dialogue with the social sciences, that it helps us make sense of the present and build bridges between peoples, and that scientific rigour stands as a safeguard against political manipulation.
