Exhibition: L’art romain du Louvre. Un monde d’images

Nîmes’s Musée de la Romanité hosts the exhibition « L’art romain du Louvre. Un monde d’images », which gathers masterpieces from a unique collection and explores the part art played in the daily lives of the Romans, well beyond its beauty.

Developed in partnership with the Louvre Museum, the exhibition departs from the purely aesthetic outlook shaped by the modern era and by collectors. It encourages visitors to consider where art stood in Roman civilisation, in which it was closely bound up with both everyday life and belief.

The works on display are more than beautiful objects: they had functions, served particular uses and carried meanings. As they follow the exhibition route, visitors discover a remarkable selection of masterpieces drawn from one of the largest collections of ancient art in the world.
