A costumed tour takes visitors back to the French Revolution, with period objects and documents bringing the daily lives of soldiers and civilians to life. A demonstration shows the soldier’s kit and a 4.5 kg flintlock musket.
Explore Fort Saint-André in the company of the veteran known as “la Mousse”, dressed in full uniform, and relive the turbulent years of the French Revolution, from 1789 to 1793. Original documents and objects of the period help you picture everyday existence for the soldiers, prisoners and civilians who passed through the fort during those intense years. You can also join in the soldier’s drill: like the young national volunteers of the time, try on the soldier’s gear, including the cartridge pouch and the revolutionary caterpillar-crested helmet, and handle the 4.5 kg flintlock musket yourself!
