My autumn break at the Aven d’Orgnac: prehistory activities

During the autumn school holidays, the Grand Site de l’Aven d’Orgnac, in Orgnac-l’Aven, hosts demonstrations and workshops on prehistoric techniques around the Cité de la Préhistoire.

How did prehistoric people start a fire? How did they make their weapons, ornaments and containers? The site’s activity leaders answer these questions by showing each movement and inviting visitors to try it themselves.

Secrets of fire: free demonstrations from 18 to 31 October 2026

Using several prehistoric methods, based either on percussion or on friction, the activity leaders show how to light a fire. Visitors witness “the magical birth of the flame”.

Sessions run all day long and each one lasts 30 minutes. They are open to everyone and covered by the Pass Grand Site.

Créa-magon workshops: pottery, jewellery and flint knapping at 3 pm

A fee applies to the Créa-magon workshops. They take place daily at 3 pm from 18 to 25 October, then again on 31 October, and give participants the chance to try their hand at pottery, jewellery and flint knapping.

Wizard and witch masks, then the storytelling tour “Frissons et friandises sous terre”

From 26 to 30 October 2026, a workshop on making wizard and witch masks is held at 2 pm. At 3:45 pm, it is followed by the storytelling tour “Frissons et friandises sous terre”.

The workshop can only be booked together with the storytelling tour, whereas the tour is also available on its own. Both the workshop and the tour are charged.
