With the painting exhibition “Guerre et paix”, Robert Combas takes over the Pont du Gard, in Vers-Pont-du-Gard. It is a large-scale exhibition, and a first for the département.
Some forty paintings and a nine-metre canvas on the Trojan War
The selection brings together around forty paintings by an artist who is impossible to overlook in contemporary art. Visitors dive into his work through pieces drawing on Antiquity, mythological tales and great battles.
One of them is a monumental nine-metre canvas devoted to the Trojan War. In it, Robert Combas turns ancient myths into present-day frescoes, “vibrant and full of energy”.
Summer evenings: Combas’s paintings in dialogue with the monument
Every summer evening, these highly expressive paintings also enter into a dialogue with the monument. The ambitious scenography showcases both contemporary art and the exceptional heritage of the site.
This is a brand-new creation, produced with Groupe F. It is accompanied by a soundtrack of pieces by Les Sans Pattes, the band of which Robert Combas is a member.
