This year, the Château de Gordes hosts three exhibitions under the banner Feuilles, Formes, Fibres, each devoted to a single artist: Marine Guillemot, Kristian Desailly and Aurélia Jaubert.

LEAFSCAPE: Marine Guillemot’s plant art meets the landscapes of the Luberon

LEAFSCAPE is an immersive exhibition in which plant-based art forges a distinctive bond with the Luberon landscapes. A lifelong forager, a self-styled “gold panner of plants”, Marine Guillemot spends long hours working fresh leaves, which she transforms into paper using an ancient Asian technique. In this blend of the organic and the artistic, a single leaf can stand for the whole tree it came from, the hill that sheltered it or the rock that shaded it.

The journey into nature continues with a photographic reinterpretation and a display on wall-mounted art paper, giving the works the scale of a botanical odyssey. Visitors are invited to step inside the artwork and take in every detail, revealed and magnified by the wallpaper-like prints. The immersion goes on with an art video, in which the infinitely small world of fibres meets the infinitely vast world of nature.

Kristian Desailly, lyrical and gestural painting shaped by Vasarely

Born in 1955 in Boulogne-Billancourt, Kristian Desailly now lives and works in Gordes. As a child he grew up among his family’s friends, figures such as Jean Tinguely, Victor Vasarely, Jean Deyrolle and François Morellet, along with the whole circle of artists around the Denise René gallery. From a very early age he built up a solid graphic technique under Vasarely, in whose studio he worked from his teenage years. He also studied at the École Supérieure d’Arts Graphiques, the École des Arts Décoratifs and then the École des Beaux-Arts, graduating in 1984.

His painting is lyrical, gestural and expressionist. It appears both on very large formats, in acrylic, charcoal and pastel, and on small watercolours.

Aurélia Jaubert, from photography to assembled tapestries

Born in 1967 in Eaubonne, Aurélia Jaubert lives and works in Joucas, in Provence. Her career keeps turning to new media and to the memory held in images. Her early research approached matter through photography. In the series Rebuts d’atelier, she gives a second life to old drawings and personal papers that were headed for the wastebasket. The series Mixtape and Super VHS look at obsolete formats such as VHS and audio tapes, and the photographic series Lost in Hardiskland turns to computer glitches. Since 2017, she has devoted herself to her assembled tapestries.
